Post subject: | Black Limba finishing |
This is the first time I've built with this wood for a b/s set. Seems rather porous so I filled and sanded with z-poxy three times before beginning the sealant and then lacquer coats. I have a few other builds going simultaneously and they easily filled with a third the amount of z-poxy. Initial sprays still seem to show pores with the black limba. Anyone else run across this? I'm hoping not to have to sand back completely to wood, but will if I must (read into this, my hands and arms are getting tired). Only seems to be a problem in a few spots on the sides (and not limited to just black or white grained wood). Hoping for a simple solution, but know many of us (self included) tend to be OCD about these things. Any thoughts? |

Not sure why this posted twice--perhaps Lance could delete one? |

Black Limba (Korina) is a fairly porous wood. I have finished it with no problems. Just sounds like you didn't get it quite filled in few spots. Options are to sand back those areas and apply a bit more of your z-poxy or to just fill with nitro. The additional z-poxy route may lead to coloration variations visible in the finish so I would just spray the extra lacquer at this point and give extra dry time before buffing. |
