Does anyone here have any experience cutting or engraving pearl or abalone with a 3d laser printer?

I've found access to one of these machines. I'll post as to how successful it is.

I think you mean laser cutter/engraver, not printer.

I think Kevin Waldron says he's done it.

I've tried it with the very thin shell veneer sheet laminated to a piece thin abs with marginal results but YMMV.

Chris, you may be interested in this thread I started on the same subject a few months ago:

Using a 40w laser cutter, the pearl did not cut well at all, very rough edges. Back to the jeweler's saw, I guess.

Lol!! I said "Laser Beam" out loud when I saw that.

I do not understand how a 3D Laser Printer (whatever that is) can be used to cut anything. Did you mean "engraver?" There was a discussion here about this not too long ago. Did not seem all that positive. I think what you need is a mechanical engraving CNC machine (uses bits)

Haha, join the club. First thing my best friend said when I shared this video, too. I don't know how laser cutters work, but the video shows ours in action on some acrylic. I still haven't gotten great results in wood. There's a learning curve with adjusting speed and power to get the desired result.
