I/m looking for an inexpensive remote control transmitter, our shop fox 1.5 hp dust collector stays on in the on position whether it/s off or on .I checked the wires to the switch and they seem fine. When I checked for continuity with the wires plugged into the switch the switch does not work. It/s either get another cheap switch or buy a remote . the switch lasted for 5 yrs. Thanks

Not sure what inexpensive means to you, but we got a remote switch from Oneida. They're about 80$...

You have to go to their site, click on a stationary unit, and scroll the accessories. Must say I love having it.

Omg have I battled that stinking Oneida remote over the last decade! [headinwall] Waving my arms wildly while clicking, disassembling the remotes to dry them out after putting them through the laundry yet again. Endless battery purchases. The list goes on. When facing replacing them w/ a new set at $80 I cracked. I ordered a bag of 30 alarm reed switches off eBay, wired every gate, and an electrician customer tied them to the old remote switch receiver. It took forever to do, was a pain in the @ss to run the wire. But pure joy is what I experience everyday now. The best part is it forces me to close every gate to turn it off. When I worked in a multi man shop it was extreamly annoying to open a gate and have no suction at all because others had left half a dozen other gates open.[uncle]

meddlingfool, I'm putting you down as a techie! [clap]

Might be obvious, but whatever remote you go with, I suggest you take that faulty switch out, even if it's stuck on. Sounds like it's having a meltdown and probably represents a fire hazard if left in the circuit. Couple of wire nuts and you're good to go.

Thanks tim, works ok , but your right I got some wire nuts.Willl connect together the 2 whites, and the 2 blacks the green gnd is already done .I looked at the motor and it says 16amps , but somehow that may not be so, especially since it/s a chinese motor . A friend said the stamped Hp an amps are not always accurate. Anyone testing these motors.? Otherwise the 13 amp rated rf remote transmitter won/t work as I have the current Dust Collector plug inserted in a heavy duty extension cord. I will check amazon for a 15 amp line .Ken forgot to ask , are these used in your shop on a dedicated 15 amp line , and does some of your equipment draw 15 amps on this single rf circuit ?? thanks

Ernie I'm not pushing them at all -- using them to control fans and air cleaners.

thanks ken, so I/m guessing they draw 1-5 amps , is that correct ??

Not much, the largest motor is only 1/5 HP we have one of these to tally amps on a circuit

Those small remotes are not really appropriate for a 1.5 HP motor whose running draw will max out a 15A circuit. You could use it to safely energize the coil on a contactor, but some assembly required and l wouldn't recommend that to a novice sparky. You're better off with a purpose-built remote for dust collectors.

Tim . I agree with you. abt a dedicated 15 amp rf line . I/m going to lowes this morning to get nut wires . and take out the switch . I won/t be using the DC as it is connected to my 37in woodmaster sander and will see vy little use over the next 6mo . cheers est bon chance est merci beaucoup

My experience is that the motor draws a lot more current when it is starting, and it will fry the remote. I bought a contactor for a few bucks, and I plan to wire it up.
Total cost for the remote, the contactor, and the wire is less than $20.

I have not taken time it investigate but I am pretty sure it would be easy to wire up a 220 volt version for about the same money.

You are correct. Contactors are available with a 220 volt coil. The contactor I bought is rated 30 amps, and up to 600 volts.
