Can a finished coco guitar be shipped across the border?

Hi Ed,
Yes it can -- but from what I understand, you can't import or export Cocobolo in raw lumber form.

Then, how does Hibdon do it?

Carefully?

Coco is Appendix II. Hibdon has no warnings on its website. I know they cut their own products.

I think Hibdon brings in logs for most of the stuff they carry (the exception being ABW that they have to bring in as cants and send them through Germany for treatment). I'm not sure if the restrictions are different for logs than for lumber. I bet if you shot them an email, they would tell you how they do it.

App. II just means you need proper paperwork to bring in raw materials .. its not impossible, just some work ... Josh House brings hond. mahogany boards into Canada from Hibdon, its just paperwork.

I had heard that coco was being well scritinized in Mexico because of the amount being bought to go to Asia ... making it tougher to get in US and Canada.

Yes indeed, lumber and veneer is no go, but finished products are OK to ship globally. If you want to import cocobolo you'll need a CITES export or re-export permit from the seller.

What everyone says is correct. You treat coco the same way you treat Honduran Mahogany when it comes to import export.
