A customer brought me a bajo sexto for setup. I've never played one or had one in my shop before. I'm looking for tips on setting one up. The customer is an outstanding banjo player, but new to the bajo sexto as well, so he's not much help. I don't know any other bajo sexto players around here, either. I'm sure I can do a perfectly serviceable setup, but it could be helpful to have some tips from someone who's familiar with the peculiarities of the bajo sexto and the playing style. Thanks! |

Yeah, I get quite a few here in Texas, and there are different sizes, so I am talking about the dreadnaught sized guitar. They are played almost like a bass guitar, with 2/4 time alternating bass / treble bump-bump, so the action over the 12th fret is higher than a normal acoustic steel string. They don't play up the frets very far, so a good 5/32" over the 12 fret will keep things non-buzzy. |
