Just wondering what the best way to cut strips for kerfing. Which direction should the grain run? |

guess looking at the views without an answer, Guess it's one of the little things no one thinks about when you just buy the stuff ..... Trying to decide which way would be less likely to break while bending..... |

I make my own. I prefer the strips to be quartered or just off quarter running lengthwise. So if you look at the edge of your board you want it to look like this: ||||| or this: /////// . Cal |

I make my kerfed linings from mahogany and have never bothered to look at the grain direction. Have never had a problem. Tom |

Thanks Tom... made some with Khaya and it was a bit brittle ... so I had a board of Poplar and going to try that. If it was Honduran I wouldn't really worry. |

I found when making kerfing from Spanish cedar they where less brittle when flat sawn. |
