Any thoughts? I know it's not as strong as mahogany, but is it a useable wood?

I'd think with a truss rod it should be ok...

Spanish cedar varies a lot in weight and strength. Some is almost as stiff as mahogany and some is downright rubbery. I would judge each piece individually.

The repair folks will know better -- but as mentioned above it can be "soft-ish" I've heard that capos can make dents -- my comment is just hear say, I have not seen it in person.

I've done a few Spanish Cedar necks on steel strings. No problem with warping or bending. And it smells so nice to work with
I do find that it dents easier than mahogany so it wouldn't be good for a "hard use" guitar (kids, traveling, camping, etc) Never had a problem with my capo though

Looking at the board with the patterns, I probably could have squeezed the second set closer to the first and got a chunk off the end for neck and tail locks...ah well, live and learn...
