I just bought a shop fox buffer , and need a source for 3 , 12in cotton buffs on each side , I.m using waterborne enduro pre- cat varnish , and sanding to 4000 grit. My question which buffs to get ??? and from whom?? I want to get rid of the 4000 grit scratches first and then do a final polish . I have rouge and white compounds , or should i just purchase a intermediate menzerna , and another for final polish .I/m new to this so would appreciate some help ?? thanks. |

I'm about to spring for some new wheels from Jescar. I've tried these on another guys setup, and liked them more than the Stewmacs, I now use (although the stewmacs are .....ok.) I use the pink Menzerna (Med.) and the beige (fine) finish solid sticks. I hand sand to 2000 grit. Water bourne lacquer. I spray light coats (18-20) and do not wetsand. Hope this helps. |

Hi , thanks are these 12in wheels ? if so how many do you put on each side? Is there a particular type or style of jescar buffs I need , do you have a specific a product number.? I use 3000 grit assilex from amazon which leaves a super smooth matt finish on 8 brushed coats. Thank you ernie |

Hey Ernie, I have a Shop Fox. Got my wheels from here. http://www.caswellplating.com/ I did use them single but I have now doubled them up and find they work better that way. Medium and fine Menzerna. I got mine from Shane but shouldn't be too hard to find on the WWW. |

I really like the 12" canton flannel wheels from LMI. I use one per side and it does a fine job for me. I wet sand to 2000 (although I've done less with fine results) and use menzerna medium & fine then polish with 3M finesse-it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I looked at LMI jescar , and caswell. I couldn/t find 12in buffs on caswell/s website. Jescar/s buff/s and polishing compound are cheaper overall than LMI . but jescar does not carry the 3in flanges for the buff which LMI does. So it becomes a judgment call on who supplies the better buffs jescar or LMI ?.If I bought from jescar I would still need the 3in flanges.Your thoughts?? . One other difference is one of the buffs from LMIis only 5/8in and needs superglue and a tapered hole to thread onto the 3/4in shaft.The jescar is ready with a 3/4in hole. Thanks. |

No Ernie, buy the FLDW 12" bias canton flannel buffing wheel w/metal center for 3/4" arbor from LMI. I made 3" flanges out of 1/4" plywood and they work just fine.... |

Rod, So you are able to get by with one buffing wheel per side? That would cut down on the initial cost for those of us who are just getting started. In your dream world would you add more or are you satisfied with just the one? Thanks, John |

jescar has the 12in buffs with the metal centers.on both the domet and cotton buffs . LMi has only 1 with the 3/4in metal hole I want to buy 4 buffs . 2 on each side, one for med buff and the 2nd for fine buffing. Thanks for the tip I can make 4 flanges from baltic birch 1/4in ply, good tip as a double set from LMI costs abt $65. Appreciate the tip .Should they be 4in or ?? Does anyone know which buffs are better the LMI or jescar?? I/d rather spend more and get a better quality buff . Thanks everyone for all the helpful tips an info it is much appreciated.Only working part time now. |

I've not done 2 buffs per side. I suspect that it would be faster but also faster to burn through the finish.......6 of one I guess. |

Caswell is an excellent source. I use 2 14" cantons on each side, 1/3 hp drive. |

Just called Caswell . yes the prices are way better for buffs than either jescar or LMI . I will be using 2 buffs per side. The lady at caswell was not sure which buffing compounds to use I want a medium compound on the 12in spiral sewn cotton and a fine compound on the flannel cotton they have 14in and 10in only no 12in , is the 14in overkill on the shop fox 3/4in shaft with 1/3hp emerson motor. Does anyone know which buffing compounds for med and fine to purchase from caswell ??? thanks |
