I love the look of the neck below. Can we have some of you weigh in on how you add some color/tint to a mahogany neck?

Yea, that is cool. There are many ways to do this, but the one that I find easiest is to use the tints from Stewmac. I just mix it into the first couple of coats of nitro after sealing and pore filling. Very easy to work with. I tint most all the necks I build to darken the mahogany or sepelle, reducing the contrast with the body wood.

Looks to me he's laid down a base coat of yellow dye solution, and then starting with a mix of brown that doesn't overly darken the wood, has applied the brown starting at the edges (peghead and heel on neck) and basically started rubbing it into the yellow, always starting at the heal or P/H and as the dye dries, working toward the middle. Most likely either a water or alcohol base. I prefer alcohol, and some can be removed or blended with a cloth damp with alcohol. Same with the box, and a little yellow can also be added to the damp cloth to highlight if need be. Edges can be made darker by adding successive dyings or adding a bit of brown to the original dye mix. Relatively simple proceedure made complex by gaining experience...kinda like watercorloring. Very good pictorial in Roger Siminoff's mandolin book.

Just as I said. Better not to use full strength, but to mix into a diluted small amount and apply. Several applications are better and the risk is less that you might make a mistake.

It might be dyed after pore filling. Or the neck might have been done with colored pore filler. It's hard to say from seeing these photos. I agree it's a nice effect.

I've experimented with this method a bit and have had a hard time keeping the stain from darkening my light-colored purlings. I've tried sealing with shellac, masking with tape, scraping clean afterwards--all without fully satisfactory results. Any tips on how others approach this step would be greatly appreciated.
