Hi Everyone.

I got a great deal on a delta 14" bandsaw in like new condition with 2 extra blades. ($150!)
I ordered a mobile locking base and an adapter sleeve so the 4" dust port will connect to my 2.5" shop vac hose.

I don't plan on resawing sides/backs yet so I don't think I need a riser at this point.
Should I get a fence for it? Anything else you would recommend?

Yes, I recommend getting a fence. I have one on my old Delta 14" and I use it all the time. It was one of those things that, once I had it, I knew I had waited too long to get!

I'd rate a fence as a necessity.

Pretty much any fence will do the job nicely - being a band saw, cutting precision thickness isn't really the game, so there's usually no need for fancy fencing. . .

great score!

definitely get a fence. also its really worth it to get yourself a good book on how to set properly set up the saw.

this is a good one... http://www.amazon.com/Bandsaw-Book-Lonnie-Bird/dp/1561582891/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1416634820&sr=1-1&keywords=bandsaw

I put a Kreg on mine. Works pretty well and has a drift adjustment.

Drift adjustment is necessary if you ask me. I have a cheap bandsaw and have to use a block of wood as a fence once I get the drift set right. Then it works great. Nice score BTW.

Thanks for the replies! I'll place the order for a fence.
I watched a bunch of YouTube videos about how to set it up before I did anything with it. I'm glad I did.
I'll check out that book though. Thanks for the tip.

Linus, you can easily build all the fences you will ever need. You can build them from scraps of wood, MDF, etc. Make them the length of your table and you can clamp them fore and aft. Or build a short fence with a long perpendicular base and clamp the base at the side of your table. Build a taller fence for resawing. You don't need to spend a bunch of money on this.

JF McKenna is correct--you will probably need to adjust for blade drift from time to time. A clamped (rather than locked) fence is particularly good for that.

I did the wood fence/clamps setup for years. Added the Kreg fence recently and life became a whole lot easier! Money very well spent.

I don't post often but feel like it when I have something worthwhile to post. I would recommend contacting Iturra Design at 904.642.2802 and asking for the Bandsaw Accessory Catalog. They do not have an online site, last I checked, but are very easy to work with. The catalog give a lot of setup hints, history of the 14 inch bandsaw and is highly directed to Delta, I have a Jet but they work for me. They have a lot of upgrade stuff: rollers, springs, levers, tires, and tools. Good Luck

A fence is a must for resawing IMHO. As for drift once you get things lined up so you get a nice parallel cut you can scribe a line in the table for future reference. I lucked out on my saw it tracks great with the miter slot.
