Hello friends. last year i built the guitar to sound like veena. the customer is very happy with the sound and sustain. previously he was solo player now he got invitation to perform with other instruments too. the problem is that the guitar sound is too low for multiple performers. so he want to add pickup to it. may i know which one is best pickup for this type of guitars as well as how to fit it. any foto tutorial help will be appreciated thanks in advance |

I would look at something like this: ($63.67) http://www.stewmac.com/Pickups_and_Electronics/Pickups/Archtop_Guitar/Kent_Armstrong_Suspended_Jazz_Humbucker.html Or this ($141.00) http://www.stewmac.com/Pickups_and_Electronics/Pickups/Archtop_Guitar/Benedetto_S-6_Suspended_Jazz_Pickup.html Both attach to the bottom of the fretboard so there is no need to cut the body to install. You may have to drill a hole for the wire and one for the jack but it would be the easiest to install. Both of these pickups were made just for archtop jazz guitars and would give you the typical sound you would expect from an archtop. I know there are a lot of others out there but these are easy to install without cutting a hole and retrofitting support braces. Bob |

The suspended style pickups mount to a finger rest. To mount one you first need to install a finger rest. A finger rest is mounted to the fingerboard extension. Kent Armstrong made an archtop pickup that mounted to the end of the neck, but I am not sure if they still make them. |

They do have a pickup that is installed on a pickguard that might work also. You could make it detachable. It has a volume knob on it too. I don't know what its called or who sells it though. |

A pickup suspended from the end of the fingerboard might be easier to remove and hide the remnants of the installation. You'd have four very small holes in the sides of the neck extension to fill and finish. A pickup mounted to the finger rest would be easy to remove, too, but might necessitate making an entirely new finger rest (depending on whether it was scooped out to allow for the pickup body). Still, it would be easy to do. |

I did one with a formed brass plate (like a shelf) screwed into an underside pocket on the fingerboard extension, & attached the pickup to the plate with DC tape. |

I've only recently learned of Flatpups from a friend, but have only seen/heard them on the youtube demos. Considering their size and construction, the sound quality is rather surprising. There is a discussion that I started on the MEF if folks want to know more about them, and the maker dropped in to talk shop. BTW, this is a cool mounting solution, Dave. |
