I have used it for a few electric guitar necks and it was stable and relatively easy to carve.
I always let them rest for a good while after initial shaping.
After 3 years or so they are still straight and good....

Used it on a bunch of guitars a few years back. It is fine, but not as nice to work with as the genuine Mahogany. It has courser grain and doesn't look as nice either. But it is cheaper...

cheap and steady!
I've used it 3 times for guitar necks, it never moved.

while a little heavier than Honduran I have used it and can't complain. It makes a fine neck

I use it all the time. Actually I find it to be more consistent in weight and density than Honduran.

Great neck wood

I use it all the time because honduran is impossible for me to get. I don't know how well it works compared to honduran but it works well enough for me. Density varies all over the place. Some lighter than feather while other is quite dense. I have found it to be fairly light compared to Sapele though... I actually hate sapele for neck wood because it's heavy, making for very neck heavy guitars, but the grain is so coarse that it's hard to get a good smooth finish over it.

Thanks folks...

It seems a lot easier to get straight grained khaya than mahogany these days...

Ken,

Any reason?

I did this two-piece khaya neck on an OM I made in 1985. Note the flat grain. So far, it has done just fine.

What size neck stock do you use to make necks? I've got access to lots of good Mahogany. I have a shipment on the way (hopefully arriving next week) that will have some 1x3x36" stock as well as 1x3x24" with a heel block. Also more of the 1-piece stock that I have right now.

Hi Josh,

Appreciate it but I can't pay retail for necks. Need to find lumberyard planks for making one piece necks...

Nope. Eastern red cedar.
