A friend of mine wants to trade me out a spray rig for a build. It's old and dirty but it looks like it's all pro stuff. I just don't know what I'm looking at or what it would be worth. Does anybody know anything about this equipment? If you need a spray outfit I would get a Fuji turbine and T75G spray gun. You only need one gun and what your friend wants to trade all looks very high milage. |

I have a spray rig at the moment. It's not super high-end but it works. I am just wondering if this would be better than what I have. I do know that the previous owner of it used it to spray cars. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

That depends on if you sell one of your finished builds for around $200 because that is about all I would give for the used junk you are showing in the pictures. I use to work in a body shop as a painter for over 20 years and that stuff is not worth much. Looks like he would be unloading a bunch of junk and getting a custom built guitar in the process. I still use regular siphon fed spray guns because that is what I have but if I were to be in the market for new I would be looking at HPLV system. Just my 2c Bob |

There's no world in which that stuff equates to a build....assuming you have a modicum of guitar building prowess. ![]() |

If you look at every one of the guns above, not one is usable as is. They all have parts missing. What Rusty said,... simplest way to go. IMO ![]() Ken |

Give him a price for the build and have him sell that stuff on Ebay or what ever then use the money to pay you. You need a HVLP system -- looks like some of that junk was used around the time of the Model"T" The furnace blower is worth about $10 |

Ok. Thanks for the advice. The compressor fires up and seems to work well. Probably would need to find parts for the guns. Can someone explain why the compressor would be junk? Meaning what sort of things typically go wrong with something that used? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Gaskets, seals, bent rods, rusty tank (common) fried motor. Think modern, new tech, small scale paint HVLP systems are far superior versus those systems from that era. BTW do you plan to paint cars too? Get the proper tool for the job at hand. |

The compressor is probably fine, it looks like a two stage so is good for high air volumes which are great for spraying and running impact guns but really not required for most guitar stuff. I have an old two stage and really like that I can have it outside in a shed and just run the airlines into the shop but it is overkill. In your market you can probably buy any number of those machines for $300 to $600. Non of the guns, except one that requires almost all the parts, are gravity feed, which I think are a bit more suited for guitar work so in my opinion, the guns are worth nothing and that is all I pay for them. So the total value of all that you see that is of any value is the compressor, and it is only a "luxury" item if you have the space, time and power to run it (probably 5hp, 30 to 40 amps, 220V). And it would be very very noisy... |

All the guns are old, abused and missing parts. Squirrel cage fans are not that efficient at moving air. The compressor may be good but it is old and may need a complete rebuild.....nothing worse than droplets of compressor oil atomized in your lacquer.A definite pass. |

I looked at the manual and it said it was oil-less. It would need to be cleaned/tuned up for sure. I don't have a ton of money to throw around and my current compressor has been acting up a bit lately. The idea of a larger capacity unit intrigues me but it sounds like the whole deal may not be worth it. At least not as an even trade. I suppose the reason why I asked on this forum is because I had doubts in the first place. Thanks everyone! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

I stayed silent until you said "oiless" compressor. Run run run from oiless compressors. I'll never own another one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

These days every brand has oil-less versions and its not an upscale feature --- even Harbor Freight |

That is NOT an oil-less compressor. You can even see the fill port's plug on the base. I have a single-stage with the exact same compressor. And mine is about 35 years old to give you an idea of how "used" that one is. |

And mine is about 35 years old to give you an idea of how "used" that one is. Admittedly, I don't know what I'm looking at. That's why I'm here. My current compressor is a 20 gallon Husky from Home Depot. The world of "single stage, dual stage, this tank with that motor…" is completely foreign to me. That being said, I am not afraid to take something that's old and fix it up as long as it will serve me well. I've done that with a lot of my tools. However, it does seem unanimous on this forum that it may not be worth it. So thanks again for your opinions. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I'd say your buddy probably has absolutely zero perception about how much skill and hard labor and work hours it takes to make a good guitar... If he knew, he'd be offering an awful lot more than that rusty scrap metal. The monetary value of that collection is not even enough to cover the materials I'd bet. Pass... |
