Any thoughts on how this would work for buffing guitars? Might be good for necks, headplates but too small for bodies?

if I'm reading the specs correctly (Quiet planetary gear) it is a random orbit spin...not nearly aggressive enough for anything but final polishing IMHO

One thing you have to watch with smaller buffing units is that when buffing you are not focusing in one area to much or you can go through the finish quickly. Probably not an issue if this is only a random orbit. I buff everything including necks and headstocks on my large pedestal buffer. If you are looking for one buffer to do everything I would go with a larger unit that can handle bodies. If you already have something like that than this might be a nice addition to your setup. I find it pretty easy to hand buff the corners and spots around the headstock that I can't get to with my big buffer.

That little Proxxon thing might work for "automated" french polishing...
