You have to consider the size of your shop and the type of tooling. And of course your budget. You work backward from there. Tim |

Thanks Tim, the shop is 30 X 60 edge sander, spindel sander. drum sander, disk sander, planer, bandsaw, resaw,.Im looking at laguna, and have the ability to duck it and size it acordingly. I just dont have anyone to bounce brands off of.I know it was a vauge question , and brands are a personal preference kinda thing. the shop i work in is dusty and its hard on me .Cocobolo is really hard on me and im finding the macassar ebony im working on now ishard on me as well. I dont like working in a dust mask it fogs my glasses. i thouight i would go pretty all out on dust removal in my own shop. |

From past threads around here, the clearvue cyclones came out a winner, more or less, largely due to the 5hp leeson motors. Google Bill Pentz and you'll find all kinds of dust collection info. Take it as you will. The clearvues also ship with Wynn Enviromental filters, not sure about other brands. Anyway, that's a good spot to start looking at least... |

I have the 4.5 horse laguna machine and it works great. The self clean feature is awesome, a huge step up from the 3 horse grizzly it replaced. My only complaint would be the noise. I ended up building an insulated room around it and now it is wonderful. The handheld remote lives in my pocket when I am in the shop, and also has performed faultlessly. I currently run a panel saw, jointer/ planer combo, 19" bandsaw, edge sander, 37" drum sander and a router table. |

This ties into the "health issues" thread. I think the highest priority should be given to dust collection. I started 10 years ago with a 1.5hp Delta and 4" piping. It was not that great. I upgraded to. 3hp V3000 Oneida with 6" piping last year and the difference is amazing. They will actually engineer your ductwork if you have a good shop diagram. For one thing the thickness sander does not load up nearly as much with oily woods. |

I built one from the plans on the Bill Pentz site. I have to say I'm very impressed. The Clearvue is this very design with a 5hp Leeson so it gets my vote. I've had the one I built for a couple years now and the cyclone is so efficient that I've had almost zero dust to clean from the filters. With a 6in. line to the machine it's very good at pulling all the dust from my thickness sander and edge and spindle sanders. Ken |

It's a real good idea to do your dust collection right. I run the 5 hp grizz cyclone with the two filters. All spiral tubing 10, 8, & 6". Proper layout, gating and minimal flex lines are a must. We have a 37" timesaver twin head sander and it keeps up fine as long as the gates are tended to and the filters cleaned a couple times a day. I could use a slightly bigger unit and may get one soon as we need another production shaper. I'll probably move up to a true industrial collector, but they are a lot of $$$. You're tooling sounds similar to mine maybe a bit less need but I'm sure there are many good collectors and I'm sure that the Laguna would serve you well. |

I just got rid of my Grizzly and went with Oneida. Let us just say that you want to the the larges you need. Onieda was very good at getting me what worked best for my shop. I am very happy with it. Lesson motor, not some no name. You get what you pay for. |

I've been very happy with my Oneida with a Baldor motor. I would add my recommendation for their equipment. |

I have Oneida with a 2 HP that is great but wish it was 3HP. There are others that look comparable but I would only go cyclone. Laguna looks good too but you can't beat Oneida. |

One thing I should add is that a power surge will fry the Oneida remote receiving unit to the tune of $70. If you use it you need some kind of protection for the 220 input. |
