Post subject:  How to join Back and Sides the spanish way
Can anybody explain his Method of joining Back Sides in the spanish way.The last 12 jears or so I worked with dished Boards which I find O.K for my Steelstrings.
But for my classic Guitars I would like to see a more unique shape like I can see on so much traditional spanish Guitars.
May first Classics I made 15 jears ago are looking much better that way.As far as I can remember I flattend the Sides with an Sandingboard in a slight Angle
and then handplaning the Heelfoot UB and LB to match the Radius of the Braces.

That's the way I do it too. I just use a flat sanding board and sand the sides down till the foot is dead level flat with the sides at least to the point at which the foot extends. The upper bout back brace is only slightly arched and far enough away from the foot that I don't worry about arching it.

I arch all of my back braces. Then before gluing the back in, I sand the braces, linings and Spanish Foot with a 15' Radiused 2x4 stick with 80 grit paper on it. Works just fine. The white stuff on the braces is double stick tape. I use it to lift the braces out and glue them to the back before inserting back into the box and gluing it all down. Braces are full height at ends, and are not glued to the sides at all, but only to the back and the little support blocks.

I do much the same as Waddy described, except that I don't glue the braces to the back prior to gluing the back to the rim. I fit and glue the back braces to the rim first, then glue the back to the assembly.

Its actually quite easy and pretty quick. And you have more control over varying geometry than a radius dish.

Doug, how do you get clamping pressure at the center of the braces when you glue on the back?

I tried Doug's way a few times, every time I had a problem with the braces hanging up on the reinforcement strip which was slotted to fit the braces. Only minor, but having to get in there and re-seat the brace to the back was a lot of trouble. After repairing three times, I decided that there had to be a better way. I glue the braces to the back, then glue in the reinforcement strip sections one at a time, then glue the back on. No more hangs.

Thanks to everybody for the fast reply.
I think there will be nothing else for it, than making the Template (one more) which
I use to do it with my bowled Backs.After that ,I make a Router Jig to preshape the sides.
Maybe I try the Torres Method by laying out the maximum hights, sticking the radiused Braces into the Brace Pockets, then try to handplane the Sides to a harmonic Shape ,which matches the Brace Radius.Possibly there are some more suggestions.
