I asked a few makers what was on their bench, this is what came back.

Sapele back replacement, original back was too thin and frequency was too low.

In the middle of bracing a 14 fret 00 falcate braced cocobolo and wonder wood lutz spruce top (both bought from OLF's classifieds). It will also have a Kent Everett style arm bevel.

John,
Did I sell you that set of coco? Looks great man!

Joey,

You did sell the set at a bargain price! The set book matched beautifully. I am building a guitar for a long time friend. I had him go through my wood after he saw it no other piece was acceptable.

I thought I recognized that, I did love that set and had a vision for it but really needed the money! I hope your friend enjoys it. Be sure to post a video of that guitar being played :)

J De, that is a gorgeous guitar. I love the bubinga set and your use of the bubinga on the head stock. The dark binding really frame the guitar and the roseete well.

These are the coolest threads, some very inventive work.
Nigel would appreciate this - in his recent blog post on dust control, he posted a link to a simple small-room dust filter.
This is exactly what I was looking for - one can't be too diligent with dust control - so many talented folks I know have become sensitized.
I framed houses for 8 years in my 20's - no dust masks, no eye or ear protection - amazing I have any facility left now that I am wiser... :-)
This is on my bench:

Hey guys, can we make a pact not to duplicate the pictures when we quote a previous post! It really ruins a thread. We've all seen the pictures before, and seeing them over and over is really irritating, not to mention the extra space required to host them over and over in the system. If you have to quote someones post, which I do understand, delete the pictures from the quote before submitting. Only takes a second to clean up the quote. Sorry, back to the regularly scheduled programming.

This not a slam on John's guitar. it looks great.

As always you people are posting some amazing work. Lovely, lovely, lovely.

I've been too bogged down this summer with work work to have much time for building guitars. Although I have managed to close up a sitka over cherry box and start on a Port Orford cedar neck. This was supposed to be for the "local woods" challenge. I'm not sure I'll make it an official entry, though, as I haven't been documenting my progress well at all.

Tim - That's an amazing guitar. Lots of very cool details. Someone will be a very lucky raffle winner.
