I am planning to put a graphite rod on either side of my truss rod. Can you share any tips or pictures?

EddieLee: Just a couple of thoughts. CF rods can serve more then one purpose. They can stiffen a neck and they can help prevent any tendency for the neck to twist. To add to stiffness plant the rods as deep as possible and use as deep a rod as possible. To help prevent twist, space the rods as far apart as possible.

A couple of years ago, I built an all western red cedar guitar with two square CF rods in the neck. On each side of the truss rod.


The CF rods ran the full length of the neck including the finger board extension support. Glued in with epoxy glue.
I used a router table to cut the CF rod slots and the truss rod slot when the neck blank was still square with no peg head ears.

This went on my first acoustic.

I got a 2 CF rods from LMI. They bend like a piece of maple. So how does a CF rod add stability?

I use this CF http://dragonplate.com/ecart/product.asp?pID=696&cID=20 and I use this trimmer http://www.busybeetools.com/products/LA ... AKITA.html with the fence set up to cut the channels. Use a 1/8" spiral cutter and you can have the channels cut and the CF glued in in about 15 minutes. I have thick, straight Maple caul to hold the neck flat during glue up. It is one of the few places that I will use 5 min epoxy.

It shouldn't. Cut a piece of maple the same size as your CF rods. Clamp both to a table, same amount extending out. Attach a thread with a hook to each, and start adding washers to each. The CF should not deflect nearly as much (in BOTH dimensions). Do the test in both dimensions. I'm gonna guess that in the tall dimension, both will tend to "roll" to left or right after a certain amount of weight (depending on length of cantelever). Thats the dimension you are interested in anyways. Which one rolls first?

I really like this idea. Curious if the added weight is noticeable. Also, does this make it "harder" to turn the truss nut? If I made my neck out of steel, say, but still had a wood finger board, since the neck is now super stiff, wouldn't adjusting the truss rod only act to deform the finger board? Since neck is really wood, but stiffened with CF, will I get any deformation in the FB?

Sorry for the overly technical question...

Edit: Never mind... I see where they are (in this application) to help prevent twist (meaning you want them out from center as mentioned above)
