Can you tell us more about the art work? What is the medium? ...oil, acrylic...? When was it applied? ...after shellac? ...under nitro?

The guitar has an Adirondack Spruce top (Maine), Eastern Black Walnut (from NC) B/S and neck, Ebony FB, bridge, head and back plates and heel cap, Gold MOP inlay, black walnut rosette, curly maple binding and end wedge, gold Grover enclosed tuners, bone nut and through saddle, nitrocellulose finish. The artist is my brother-in-law Harald Aksdal. |

First Harald had to find out what he could put on it (it was the first time he used wood as a medium) and if it would be compatible with nitro. I completed the box assembly, then did the finish sanding on the top and sent it to him. It is water color and ink. The style is uniquely his (you'd see what I mean if you could see it up close, the detail isn't done justice in the pics and is incredible). Once I got it back I finished it in nitro pretty much as I normally would. The painting is layered (7 or 8 I think) and is not completely level in spots but it adds a nice effect to the work. |

Thanks for the compliments everyone. Mike Collins wrote: Nice! How's she sound? Mike Mike, it's opening up nicely. With the Adi top and bracing I think it will continue to do so for a while. To my ear the sound is somewhere between Mahogany and Rosewood. It's my first with Walnut and I'm quite pleased with it. BTW, I used to live in Ft. Edward and have two sons still in NY (one still with t Ft. Ed address). Were you into repair back in the 80's? I had a 1969 Gibson LG0 worked on by someone in Argyle back then. You perhaps (I can't remember who did it)? |
