I have been working on this guitar for a customer in Quebec that I met at the 2012 Montreal show.

Quilt Maple back and sides
Englemann top
Maple laminated neck
Ebony Fingerboard, bridge, binding, peg head overlays and Rosette.
Cardinal Nitro finish.

He wanted a black and white color scheme. I usually use Mohawk but to avoid the amber tint of it I went to Cardinal as it is water clear.

That hits the spot Fred, really nice!

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

Fred,
That is a ver sweet looking guitar.
I live the maple you used.

The pics of the finish, especially the head look great.
What is your secret for what you do after buffing to get it to the next level of shiny?

Dave

Very nicely done Fred. What did you use for the laminate in the neck, black fiber?

Steve the neck veneer is black dyed veneer from A&M wood.

Fred, quilted maple is a favorite of mine. Lovely work and finish. I would have had a hard time giving that one up.

Nice looking guitar Fred. Like the looks of the fine black lines in the neck lam.

The guitar left home today, moving to Quebec.

Here is a short video of Jean playing his 1st tune on the guitar, recorded with my Sony digital camera so the sound is not as good as with a proper mic.
