I am just making the bridge for Paynes MJ. I notice the pin placement seems a bit too far from the saddle, ~ .04 to.06. Is that OK or should I put them all the same, meaning parallel with the saddle or what? I have also been looking around for a reasonable close up of the bridge to understand the shaping of it better. Mike: Lots of folks drill the pin holes parallel to the bridge slot. It's the way I do it. If the grain is parallel to the blank it may lessen the chance of cracking between pins. Also it helps to even out the break over angle of the strings. Not really sure if that matters much..........some folks think it does. Don't have the plan here so can't comment on the distance from bridge. Tom |
