I'm packing up the machine shop and moving across the state. I'll be packing up all my luthier supplies as well and they will most likely remain packed up until I have the shop up and running. So my question is how to pack up my Tonewoods. I don't want any twisting or warping and such. Should I wrap them up in pairs using plastic wrap like I received most of em? Should I just stack them together and wrap em? Do I need to unpack and sticker them quickly or can they sit for a while? Any suggestions or recommendations would be much appreciated. |

Zeke, wrap them up with plastic stretch wrap, like how I ship woods to you. If your backs and sides are all pretty close to the same width, wrap all of your sides together, by themselves. Then do the same thing with your back sets. Wrap them up nice and tight and they will be just fine. By wrapping them all together, they will support each other and prevent breakage during shipment. You can leave them all wrapped in plastic as long as you need to keep them stored, so long as all of your material is dry and all at the same moisture equilibrium. Don't wrap up anything that is not dry or it will mold on you. The plastic will keep the moisture content from shifting up or down too quickly, thus preventing warpage/cracking. Keep in mind that while in storage the wood needs to be kept from getting too hot. |

Thanks Aaron! That was just the info I was looking for. I'll wrap all similar sized pieces together. Hopefully they won't be in strange long but moving is so hectic you never really know. Especially moving an entire business. On the bright side I'll be closer to you, Aaron, and to the east tn luthier meetings. Hopefully I can meet some of y'all! |
