I/m trying to glue a piece of black and white purfling together using the stewmac plastic umhw jig for glueing 2 pieces of purfling or binding .Their website suggests using acetone. I can only glue 1 small section abt 11/2in at a time , which takes like forever .I/ve got about 74 in to do for a tenor uke the plastic is abt 2mm high and abt .020 thick. I/ve always used wood purfling . So this is my first experience of laminating plastic purfling. Any suggestions for a speedier method? Thanks.

I have done it a few times and it is about as simple as it gets. I made my own jig just using 3 pieces of wood but if you have the Stew Mac version then you are good to go. Just put your strips together in the jig, Brush acetone between the strips before they enter the jig and pull them through making sure they are lined up. Just keep brushing acetone ahead of the jig and pull it through. No need to wait since the acetone bonds them together pretty quickly. On my jig I can weld a couple of strips together in about 5 minutes or so. After you pull it out just lay it on a flat surface and give it some time to set up. I would give them at least a couple of hours before doing anything with them.

Cheers,
Bob

Thanks bob .that was the problem .I was waiting for the acetone to set up, and clamping the purfling in the slot waiting for it to dry .Did not realize it/s a quick bond. From now on I will do as per your suggestion thanks again ernie
