Probably that ivory thread, which seems to have been deleted. Looked like people were getting into a flame war again.

Frustrating how many of the highly experienced people here get involved in those threads and then leave :(

Obviously not going to happen without the cooperation of Lance. I haven't figured out how to quit and delete all my topics.
There's a few I'd delete..... :)
They're probably trying to teach us a lesson.
Todd, if you stay gone, I'm gonna miss you buddy. :(

That is a shame. While I am so far to the left of Todd as to be on a different planet I always appreciated both the knowledge that he willing shared and the views he expressed.

That is a shame. I hope the banishment, if that is what it is, is not for long.

Todd is not the only one either! I was told of two more.

What John Parchem said.

Very, very sad. All that wealth of information gone. How can that be allowed to happen?

Too 'liberal' with the Politics. Virtually always descends into very nasty threads. That's why such things are probably best reserved for the places on the internet that allow Political threads. If someone puts in a Political comment (even if it's a throwaway comment) there is nearly always a reaction from someone with opposing views. It rarely reaches an amicable conclusion.

That's a shame. I'm with John re the politics, but the loss of Todd's experience and the weight of his documentation from the archived material is unfortunate.

Danny, thanks for posing the question, and Filippio for the response. I will not second guess Lance on this, but must admit that I simply don't like the outcome particularly as it applies to Todd (and presumably a couple of others) and to the OLF community at large.

I'm not sure what happened, but I trust Lance's judgement to keep the OLF running smoothly.

I'll be glad to see the back of extremist political views on this forum but really Todd was a very helpful bloke who was passionate about lutherie and passing on his knowledge.

I and a few others tried to divert that thread back to the topic but for what ever reason he decided to continue his political rant.
I actually agree with a lot of his political views but this is not the place to discuss views on politics or religion as the Code of Conduct clearly states.

I think Todd is a very generous guy when it comes to his luthier skills and was always helpful to me but at some point he should have taken the hint to stop the political rant. It was his choice to do what he wanted but it was also Lances choice to enforce the rules he set out for all of us.

It is a shame he got banned but what would this forum be if we all just ignored the rules. What if it was religon? Would any of you stand someone with radical religious views to start posting their radical views? Maybe radical Islamic points of views?

There is no difference between political and religious topics when it comes to the rules Lance set out for us to follow.

So yes it is a shame that it came to banning anyone on the forum but I agree 100% with Lance's decision to keep this forum on topic.

+1 for Lance [:Y:]

(on this one I won't use my usual greeting of "Cheers")

Debbie Saran always got knocked for clamping down on people's comments right from the beginning, but it did keep the MIMF pretty civil. Still I can recall a couple of discussions that got out of hand when she wasn't looking, and a number of people were booted or left of their own accord.
I am sorry to see any of the people go. Aside from the loss of "content" there is the loss of "color" - wit and humor, opposing viewpoints, and the writing style of individuals. Unfortunately, as Padma pointed out, it is the "train wreck" threads that attract the most attention, draw in the most people and devolve into a virtual brawl.
When I saw the "ivory" discussion disappear, I thought that was needed. Sorry to see things carried further than that.

Folks I will eventually weigh in on the issues that unfolded over the weekend.
At the moment my wife is in surgery this morning (all good) but it goes with out saying she has all my attention right now...

I should be back at work mid week and will have some thoughts to share....

Thanks

Lance, glad the surgery went OK, and your attention is in the right place.
All my best to the little lady.

In a situation like this I think we all need to step back and think...what would jesus do???? Lol

Let's not be too hard on Lance. It was his decision to enforce the rules, but it wasn't his decision about Todd's content.

And from what I hear, that thread got pretty awful right at the end before it was pulled, although I didn't see it.

It's not like he's dead, just not here on this forum.

Hopefully its a short term probation, politics aside this site needs expertise from real world repairmen and builders, since I have been on this site it seems too many good folks have left.
