Post subject:  case building

I am going to build a hardshell case for my custom archtop and have been searching liner materials. Considering sheepskin. Any input on case building or where to get liner materials? Stew-mac has handles, hinges, and covering .Thanks

I would go to a fabric store. Most of the lining in a case is man made "fake fur" of some sort. You will need fake fur and some foam padding both of which could be found at a decent fabric store.

Crushed velvet. Also look for fabric adhesive.

I used foam pads, a large towel, and "Foam-safe" spray adhesive from Walmart
for custom fitting a case to a parlor I built for my granddaughter.

at the autry museum there's this nice little martin parlor coffin case. made from pine and painted green, i'm going to replicate one of these some day. i was thinking about using some velvet and some sort of foam or terry cotten material for padding under it. maybe the foam will outgass -not sure, but i think one needs to consider vapors coming from adhesives, etc... otherwise you'l have something like taylor's "chemical warfare" case smell.

I've build a couple of coffin cases. They are fun and easy to build. I used 1/2 inch pine for the sides and 1/8 inch plywood for the top and bottom. I used a "velvet" material to line the case and wrapped the material around corrugated cardboard to provide some padding and make it easier to install. The blocking I made from stacked and glued up layers of cardboard which I then cut to shape on the bandsaw.
