I built this for an old high school buddy of mine who is a professional climber,hence the inlay of the carabiner in the head. Sitka top,curly maple back and sides, koa and ebony appointments, 25-1/2" scale Gotoh open back tuners.Nitro finish |

My respect for the owner went up even more! Nice work, Brad. Eastern Hard Maple or ? Filippo Filippo, The back is big leaf (soft0 Maple and the sides are eastern hard maple. I broke 3 sets of soft maple sides (my personal record!) and that's all I had left and it bent like butter-Go figure. The nice thing was it is a great match. |

Filippo Filippo, I have built about 30 archtop guitars mostly out of Curly Big Leaf western maple and quilted maple all with Sitka spruce tops-all X braced in 18",17" and 16" sizes mostly 3" deep-a couple 3-1/4" . So unlike the 30 flattops I have built which vary greatly,(different sizes, models, woods) it has been a much more controlled "experiment". Out of all this I have to say I like the sound of the 18" archtops-unfortunatly they are the hardest to sell so I no longer build them on spec. I will probably build one for myself (right!) one day. I have also gone from 3" to 3-1/4" on the 16's as standard practice.-Nicer bottom I am also building lighter than in the past. |

I'm sure he thought if he had a pickup installed he would also have to figure out a way of carrying an amp up the mountain too.

Believe me, this guy COULD climb a mountain with a guitar AND an amp!!!! |
