Post subject:  Clear Pick Guard Removal

Having never taken off a mylar( I think) pick guard, I'm in need some advice on how to safely remove one with out doing any damage. Without going into details, the one that's on there apparently isn't big enough.

Thanks,
Danny

Thanks Todd. Dental floss! Where the heck did you come up with that one? Clever. That should be much less risky than an Exacto knife. It's nitro finish. I'll get a little heat and use some naptha in a pipette and will buff.

I appreciate the help.

Put them on cleanly, and they look great. Taking them off an old guitar is a crap shoot. I don't know whether the adhesive varies, or the age-exposure is the issue. (Heat exposure? U.V.?)

Recently applied pickguards seem to come off cleanly with a little naptha (Coleman camp fuel), and a little patience. Older pickguards can be difficult. That's as polite as I can put it. Sometimes I can't be polite.

Thanks Eric. It was my own guitar and only about 1 year old. It's a little silly because the pick guard is fine. The guy who bought thinks he needs a massive one on it. Unfortunately, or fortunately, I've gotten good at cutting them and there are no lifted edge anywhere to get started. It will be back in a few days for that and some electronics. Maybe I should get him to sign a disclaimer. On the plus side, I get to build myself a new one. [:Y:] Calling Aaron Hix.
