I have drawn up a shape in gthang from Mr. Mottola's website: http://liutaiomottola.com/formulae/gthang.htm I want to generate some templates and would rather not deal with printing out tiled pdfs because I would like to keep some extra full sized copies around. It looks like I can only save as dxf. My sister-in-law said she can convert it to dwg and plot it for me. Frankly I am out of my element and want to see if anyone has done it this way and if there were any problems. I'll be emailing the file then waiting until the next time I see them to get the printouts, then I will have to verify the accuracy. I don't want to burden her with several back and fourths. . .

Should be fine. DXF to DWG is a fairly common conversion and plotting it in one go will be a lot more accurate than piecing them together. It'll certainly save time cutting and sticking!

I exported the file from G thang and then imported it into Rhino CAD. Printed from there. You can get a free version of Rhino online.

yep, pretty easy. i don't actually print them though, but import them into MC and generate a toolpath to cut a wood template.

g thang is awesome. Mr Mottola deserves many thanks.

Have you tried Jon Sevy's little app which works using B-splines rather than blended circles?

(You want the Guitar Design Java Application)

In version 1.1, you can print full size to a .pdf file and then take that to a print shop and get a full size print (or 6). I usually just tape up six A4 sheets, but you have the option. Saves having to run through multiple applications. The .pdf trick might be possible in G-thang, too, but it's a while since I used it. (G-thang, that is).

Thanks all!

Trevor, I have not heard of Jon Sevy's app. I have a design I like in gthang but I think I'll spend some time with Jon's program over the holiday to see if I end up with something I like better. Thanks!
