Sorry! I feel that i started my first post with the whole pregnancy thing so now you have to suffer with it! (See viewtopic.php?f=10101&t=41876) So like all nervous parents, I have that stomach ache wondering if my first born is gonna have all it's fingers and toes! I obviously want it to be perfect! I am wondering a bit about looks... I have the ziricote back and sides with a LS redwood top. I think the top is pretty outstanding on its own and i probably lean towards being a minimalist but I stil want the best for my baby. I am wondering if a ziricote fingerboard will be too much especially if i match it with a ziricote bridge? I defniately would stay away from sapwood, but thought it might be nice to tie the front to the back/sides. I am not concerned about the tomewood qualities for either. I don't think it makes much of a difference to be honest. I think it's main purpose is to resist gouging from the strings. So with that said.... do you thinkbaby will be better looking with a traditional black fretboard/bridge or will the ziricote work better? I have not found a set that i like enough.... yet. Also will be doing the headplate in ziricote (i think). Do your personal tastes tend toward keeping those dark or will the ziricote work? I haven't seen any that really strike me but there could be some out there... An alternative, i am using some type of brown wood (real technical, i know...) for the binding so maybe a dark brown combo? Might pick up the rosette color... I am thinking of keeping any inlay to a minimum. so it shouldn't clash with the figure... maybe just an inlaid umbilical cord spiraling down the fingerboard?? (Not!) |

Personally putting a Zircote fretboard bridge and head plate coupled with a Zircote back and sides would be too much of a good thing, so to say. Not that you have to do traditional ebony. There are plenty of other woods to choose from to mix things up a bit. |

I agree with Zeke, especially if you want to be a minimalist as you say. Other then that, your the creator. Tom |

Kind of the way i was leaning. I was also thinking of something in the reddish brown range to match the rosette color... It's tough picking out wood based on photos on websites. |
