My experience with nylon strings is that anything oily is absorbed into the nylon and ruins it.

Have used it on furniture and cabinets in my past life to fix scratches.....would likely not use it on guitars for that either .Used to put a light oil on my strings when I played semi-pro so I could shred faster. It killed tone rather quick, but I was replacing all my strings on a weekly basis anyway so it didn't matter that much.

I think I might have smoked some back in the sixties.....But I don' remember the sixties all that well...
I don't know that I'd use it on steel guitar strings.
