Booze and cigars? Dang, that's two more things to like about Portland. :-) Good luck, Jeff. I hope the move and the local luthier scene works out well for you.

Thanks for the intro Todd.

I apprenticed with Todd for over three years and built a couple of really nice guitars. I miss building and playing music with others. I look forward to meeting Portland-area builders and guitarists and making some new friends.

I'll be playing the 000-12 I made at the Portland Guitar Society meeting tonight. If you happen to be there tonight I look forward to meeting you.

I have indeed shared some nice scotch and cigars with Todd over the years. He never did acquire a taste for the peaty stuff.

Todd and I would get along fine then. He can take the cigars and I'll take the Laphroaig....we'll both smell like smoke.

Well, I live in Portland but being that I'm fairly new to all of this guitar building myself I hardly know anyone or anything going on in this town. I've met David King who builds some pretty sweet electric basses and some of the folks over at Portland Fretworks and the 12th Fret but that's the extent of my knowledge about things. I actually didn't know there was a "Portland Guitar Society" so I think I'll be looking into that but won't be at the meeting tonight. For the record I like both scotch and cigars, but only occasionally, and have drank my share of Laphroiaeyieg, or however you spell it.

So welcome to Portland! It's a nice place to live with lots to do and lots of kooky people who are really into doing things themselves, weird things like making their own lightbulbs and kombucha. Maybe we'll run into each other down the road!

Oh and thanks to Todd Stock from me as well, this thread will hopefully point me in the direction of some stuff and people I wasn't aware of either!

Portland is awesome for long boarding. And don't worry if you think your'e too old. Skateboarding is like the golf of Portland.

George, thanks for the good wishes.

John, I don't know anything about Fretworks or the 12th fret. Thanks for the info. Hope to run into you as well. Are you also a player? If so, what style?

Pat, I was in an east side coffee shop yesterday that shared space with a bamboo woodworking shop. I know - Portland weird. They made everything out bamboo from high end furniture to flooring to - you guessed it - long boards. Hmmm ... Bamboo acoustics?

BTW I got the date wrong for the Portland Guitar Society meeting. Its next Monday.
