Post subject:  Better Late than Never

This past saturday I was able to dial in guitar #1 and declare it finished. It took me 3 years to get it done because unfortunately my day job got in the way. I changed jobs and relocated shortly after completing binding the guitar. To complete it took me another 30 months.

I decided to try this adventure after attending a Luthiers gathering at John Hall's. I purchased the EIR for the back and sides and the Port Orford cedar top from the luthiers forum during the auction days. I purchased the balance of the kit from John Hall. Tip of the hat to you John.

For someone without any wood working skills, the guitar is really nice. I decided to put a thin satin finish on it because I felt skilled enough to do that myself. I want to thank Jim Warwick and Rob Mock for the countless answering all of my questions. I want to thank Jim for having me come to his shop so he could supervise some of my work and give me some great instruction. Rob thanks for letting me come over to Melodee Music and the use of the workshop area. John Hall..I want to thank you for answering my questions too.

Shortly I will post pictures and perhaps some sound clips. Lance thanks for providing the platform for this forum and to the folks at the forum who also assisted when I had questions..Many thanks.

Way to go man.

My first took several years through upheavals as well. Congrats on sticking it out!

My first guitar was a kit and it took me 7 weeks to finish it. I get a bit obsessive about things sometimes. Nice job finishing yours despite the difficulties you had.
Looking forward to seeing pics of the completed guitar.

Nice job sticking it out! It sure is a great feeling hearing your first instrument for the first time. I know what it is like to have long delays. I get side tracked by life all the time and often months go by where i don't even get into the shop (like right now). I bet the next one will go a lot faster. I know you have it all planned out in your head already anyway :)

It is a great feeling. You guys are correct... I do have my next three guitars mapped out I'm my head.
This was a great learning experience. I will re-sequence some of the work I did on the next ones.

Congrats as well. I know the feeling of having that partially made guitar sitting on the sidelines while other things go on. But once bitten, there's no cure.
Can't wait to see the pics.
