You will need to be more specific than "a guitar" my good man.

I'm not so sure. Maybe by saying 'Guitar' he's giving artistic licence? You know these arty crafty types can be a bit highly strung (excuse moi) and he doesn't wish to incur their wrath.

You guys have smelled too much glue :D
But seriously, I am going to have a guitar built so I thought I would ask here. Of course there will be lots of details to discuss but no point if no one is interested.

I'll build you a guitar, Brother! It might not be one of my highest-end models, but it could be a really nice one. Contact me and we'll talk.

From a pure marketing/sales perspective, a lot of you guys need work on your answers. The gentleman asked if anyone was interested and he stated his price point. Seems like the better response would have been an invitation to a private discussion about details. You could easily have made up your minds about the inquiry after that private discussion. No need to get all smart-aleck with the poster. Just my opinion.

Not that I want to hijack this thread, but since the business side of lutherie is often debated and explored here (and most of the time with the conclusion that it's a tough business), I think cphanna's comment is quite wise and well placed. When in a discussion with a potential customer, it is of the utmost importance to never say or do anything that might, even from afar, make him/her feel uncomfortable. This is one of the basis of salesmanship. Although obviously itswednesday14 was not shocked with the given answers to his original question, many people would, and would have just back off.

The first reaction to have when a (potential) customer shows interest, is to show him that you are happy he does. Then you ask questions.

+1. A surprising number of potential and actual clients read this forum. Looking professional is always a good thing.

Don't tell Tony, but I think I can get him to make me a guitar for $1200, then sell it to this fellow for $2300! [:Y:]

Hmmm...only if you either bribe me with a new iPhone 6 (I know it isnt out yet, but I hear you have some connections) or threaten to shoot me with your laser beams. But just by asking me nicely, I cant see it happening, despite how nice you are.
