I'm a little confused, please help.
I'm following the Grellier OM plans and I've come to measure out the spacing for the bridge pins but I'm not sure if all is well.
The spacing at the nut is 44mm. Spacing between centres of E-e bridge pins is 55mm and measurment across fingerboard at 12th fret is 54mm.
BUT, if I mark the string positions at the nut 3mm in for low e and 2.5mm in for high e then draw a line parrell to the edge of the fingerboard the bridge pin positions come out at 60mm (5mm more than the plans).
Which is correct? If 55mm is right then this means the edge of fingerboard is not parrell to the line of the strings. Why would this be so?
So the basic question is- should the edge of fingerboard be parrell to the line of the e strings?

No, not for most players. As you go from the nut toward the 12th fret, the string can bend more easily, and most players like more setback from the edge to avoid slipping off the fret.

PLUS 1 but .200" may be a bit high. The concept is correct.

Thanks, Tim I quess that's all I need to know. Makes sense now. Of course, Grellier got it right!
