Before work this morning, I was putting the second coat of Ace Varnish on my new build (#4). I use a 2-foot piece of scrap wood, attached to the neck joint, that I put in my bike stand to hold the body while I wipe the varnish on. Well, the neck joint attachment broke. but I was able to catch the guitar body, by the soundhole no less, as it plummeted toward the concrete garage floor. That'll wake you up in the morning. Good thing I had my coffee! This was one of those jigs that I kept looking at, saying to myself that I need to make a better one. Need to listen to those voices in my head. No, not those, the other ones... |

That was the one thing I made well the first time around! Actually, I made two for when I had to finish, well...two guitars at once! I used oak boards from HD and it took me all of 15 minutes to drill for the insert, shave the board down to the right size, and get it almost completed. One thing I need to do is to soften the corners so it is more comfortable when I hold it. But since I mostly use it clamped to my bench, it doesn't bother me that much. |
