Here is my latest build. It's an L-00 with some Martin elements, such as truss rod adjustment inside the body rather than at the headstock and a Martin scale, 24.9 inches rather than the Gibson 24.75 inches. The difference in scale length is very small (insignificant, although I did compensate for the difference). I just put the strings on and it’s already singing sweetly. After some opening up time, it should be extra sweet… This is number 10 and my first sunburst. Thanks for looking. Steve - African Mahogany back and sides - Carpathian Spruce top - Honduran Mahogany neck - Macassar Ebony fingerboard - Figured Maple binding - EM6000 |

NICE! Makes me think of my old Gibson LG-1. I expect yours is a better instrument. Keep them coming. Patrick |

So pretty. How did you do the sunburst? Did you find it difficult? |

Thanks for all the kind words. It feels good after working on it for almost a year. Linus asked if the sunburst was difficult... This was my first attemp and maybe I got lucky. This is how I did it: I shot 4 coats of EM6000 over shellac; then proceeded to shoot EM6000 with 50 drops/ounce of honey amber transint on the entire top; then I adjusted the flow and pattern on my gun to reduce material output so I could feather in the burst with red mahogany transtint at 50 drops/ounce; then added about 20 drops of black to the red mahogany mixture to get the outside of the burst; then I continued to clear coats. I was please with how it turned out. Everything went well with this build, although, at the very end - the last step - I was cleaning out the nut slot with a chisel and chipped some finish at the headplate. I should have used a file rather than a chisel...Doh! I went ahead and put the strings on. I will go back and drop fill and fix that area at some point. It just kills me that I have to go back and fix something... Well, I wasn't making it for anyone - just having fun. Steve |

Steve, I'll bet your comment about the little nut slot goof rings a bell for everyone here. Those slip-ups are always so humbling. But you've already moved beyond it. I like your attitude. Nice axe, my friend. I'd sure be proud if I had built it. Patrick |
