...you ensure your vehicles have a tape measure in the glove boxes at all times just in case you come across some interesting stock at the lumber yard.

Actually, those they have at most lumber yards. Instead, you keep a well sharpened block plane in your glove box so you can check the grain orientation of sealed lumber.

Filippo is right - those that are luthiers or hacks should have the measurements memorized and be able to measure with their fingers or arm lengths. a few lose hairs laid side to side are good for those really precise measurements

If you look at same Door and wonder if it is REALLY Mahogany and if he is in Compliance with Cites/lacey
