This summer, the Ashmolean will open a special exhibition celebrating the life and work of Antonio Stradivari. For the first time ever in the UK, the Ashmolean will bring together 21 of Stradivari’s most important, well-preserved instruments to showcase the brilliance of his craft, including 11 works from his Golden Period.

Until August 11th! Not long left.

I only just found out about it so I thought others may still be in the dark. I'm definitely taking the chance to see his craftsmanship up close.

The Ashmolean has 3 Strad violins and a Strad guitar on permanent display. In the same room with the Strads are some great English viols, citterns, and a host of other fantastic instruments. An incredible room. And, just upstairs from the musical instruments, is one of my favorite rooms in any gallery world-wide: A comprehensive collection of The Pre-Raphaelites.

Sounds good. I've not been before, glad to hear I'll be seeing a Strad guitar too! I'm tempted to make one just so I can say I've built a copy of a Strad. :)
