Post subject:  re-Bending on form after spring back

Hello - I bent Honduran Rosewood successfully on my form, no cracks or warping. But I do have a good amount of spring back. Ideally I want this to slip into my mold without too much spring back.

1. If I place this back on my mold - any ideas if this is good and how long should I put it in for ?
2. Should I cut my form back a little to overcompensate for the spring back ?

I tried correcting the spring back on the pipe - but for some reason this wood is very resistant to bending on the pipe.

I'd put it back in the bender slightly wetted again and cook it at 320-350 for another ten minutes and see what happened....

you should have a slight about of compensation designed into your pattern. At 350 for 5 minutes you will get a good bit of resin.

Thanks John - I just trimmed my form a bit and cooked 230 degrees for 45 minutes - I think that will do the trick - will confirm in the morning.

...I think you can over-cook the side and the wood can become brittle and cracking can occur. At least I seem to have had that happen to a black limba side...

there's always something - recooking it seemed to have worked - I added more water to keep from over cooking it - we will see how she holds up in the future !
