I thought I would share a couple of shots of my latest. It's a bit of a milestone because it is my first go at a bevel and the first of my own shape. It does still look very much like a guitar.
The Koa is from a board a buddy of mine brought back from Hawaii. Nothing fancy but it is just rich and very lovely wood. First time I've used it but won't be the last. First time I have used Bearclaw also and I'm liking it a lot. I decided to finally get off my butt and make my own shape. The kicker was I wanted something a little bigger, a 16" guitar, to put a bevel on. I used the same bracing layout as I do a forward shifted Dred.The specs are:
Koa back and sides
Bearclaw Sitka top
Bolivian Rosewood bevel and binding
Mahogany/black veneer neck
Ebony FB, bridge and head plate
Black MOP shell
Gotoh 510 tuners
Nitro over Zpoxy finish
WRC under the bevel

To comment on doing a bevel, I would say that overall it was pretty fun. Thanks to Robby O'Brian's video for making it look so easy.
I think he missed a couple of steps. I do see why black would be a preferred wood colour and anyone that can cleanly do a bevel in Maple has got some serious chops. The bevel itself is quite deep and I like the feel a lot. I think I went in from the top 1" and 3/4" into the side at the deepest point. It's very comfortable to play. The next one will get a redesign and I'll go further South with it just because I think it would look better. I should have started at the tail block. The guitar sounds GREAT. Very full and rich sounding. I think I will keep this one for myself.
