I have always liked the look of the Gibson CF-100. Does anyone know what the shape is and where I could get a plan? I can put in the cutaway, so it doesn't have to be a CF-100 plan. I'd like to know what model shape it is... Is it a B-25 shape? Anybody out there know Gibsons? |

I guess it's close to an OM. I could put that style of cutaway in and maybe use block inlays and it would look close... I does appear to have a little bit wider waste than an OM... I would assume it has a 24.75" scale. ...not far from 24.9... |

That look's very much like a classic J-45 shape. Though I've never seen one with a Florentine cutaway like that. |

Bill, To me it looks wider in the upper bout than a J-45... |

You may be right, I contemplated that thought as well but tossed it out as an optical illusion due to the Florentine. It definitely looks to be one of their Dred body styles due to the wide waist. But I'm certainly not a Gibson expert. |

1950 CF-100 introduction specs: 14 1/8" wide (LG sized), pointed cutaway, solid "X" braced spruce top with scaloped braces, solid mahogany back and sides, teardrop pickguard, upper belly bridge (belly towards soundhold), bound rosewood fingerboard with 20 frets, trapezoid fingerboard inlays, gold decal logo, sunburst finish. 1955 pickguard enlarged, lower braces scalloped from: http://home.provide.net/~cfh/cf100.html , so mostly copied from other places , sometimes wrong. They are LG size, which is the same shape as a B-25. When I had one in the shop, I drew a pattern of the cutaway and the inlays, thinking I would someday convert an LG. But I never got around to doing it. Being a sharp (florentine) cutaway, it makes a nice conversion. I once asked Leon Redbone about his, but he could not offer any information......other than the fact that he had stuck several pickups in it, and never removed one. As you might imagine, it was full of wires. |
