So with all the concern over Lacey, I was just wondering if anyone has actually heard of real cases of people losing guitars at the border. If it was vigorously being enforced, you'd think that confiscation would be happening fairly regularly and that people would be hearing more about it and it would be more common knowledge. Yet I haven't actually heard of a guitar being taken and I never run into guitar sales people that know anything about Lacey. So what's the scoop?

So I take the no response to mean that nobody has real first or second hand experience of having a guitar confiscated?

Guess not. I was curious about this too. Maybe it's too expensive to really enforce this kind of thing, so they just made a big show of sticking Gibson's head on a pike to scare the rest of us into complying of our own free will.

Could ask over at AGF too, though. More people and more guitars over there... although lower proportion of endangered woods.

Hey Pat,

I do know of builders who have had instruments turned back at the boarder due to missing or improper Lacey paperwork. I have not heard of any builders loosing guitars outright. But one guy I heard of had the guitar tied up at the boarder for several weeks before it was sent back to him. That would be a little nerve wracking.

Those people who are filling out the paperwork properly (or to the best of their ability) don't seem to be having a problem.

I'll also add that the guitar people I deal with in the US on a regular basis are very familiar with Lacey and the hassles assosciated with it.
