1/16" spiral downcut end mill.

Unless you're adding a purfling line of 1/32"...... ;)

If all your doing it routing out a channel on the top to install a basic wood rosette, I'd go with either a 1/16" or 1/8" end mill.

As Dennis said though, you'll want to go with a downcut spiral.....Stew Mac sells them (rather expensive) or you can get them from places like MSC. Or do a search on the forum for small end mills and you should get several hits with where to purchase inexpensively.

Cheers

it depends on the rosette.
A sharp bit. I won't use a down cut on a closed cut , the chips are pushed into the work . This creates more heat. .I use 3/32 bits for most of the rosettes. I also use a 70,000 rpm cutter.

I've thought this too. I use straight router bits and never had a problem with my laminate trimmer.
I'd use the biggest bit you can for your rosette. I try to make one pass to remove most of the wood and one to fine-fit. Fewer passes meas fewer chances to screw it up
