Building a black walnut guitar for a friend and he wants hickory for his bridge and fretboard. From what I've read it has high damping qualities. Anybody here used it for bridges? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I take it this wasn't meant to be in classfieds... I've used pecan, which is in the same genus, and would use it again. At least the piece I had made a decent ping when tapped. Do you have a particular variety of hickory in mind? Shagbark grows all over around here, but I haven't ever had the opportunity to tap test a piece of the wood and see how it compares with pecan. |

I think it depends alot on the board. I made a hickory fretboard and I roughed out the bridge. It seems like it should work fine. The tap is really metallic and dense. The board I used had less flex in it than maple i've tested. Its about 18 degrees off quarter. I would say its alot lighter than ebony and about the same as IRW bridges. I hope to string mine up in a couple weeks. I'm using it on the OLF build off #2. The build off is over but I'm still working on it and posting pics on the forum. |
