So I thought I'd try a Martin truss rod after reading some threads. I ordered a 14 fret rod and imagine my surprise when it showed up 15 inches long, not including the adjusting nut. :( Clinton

I too ordered some Martin rods after reading that thread. 15 " without the nut sounds mighty big. I ordered mine from John Hall and they are 14" including the nut. I thought there were about 3/4" to short but John says they are good.

So why is it so long? I need to return it anyways, I wanted a 2 way. Clinton

If you run the rod right to, and even under, the nut, it's about 14-3/4" to the end of Martin-style dovetail, but even if you don't run it all the way up under the nut, the rod will still be completely within the neck and neck block, with just the adjusting nut left protruding past the block, so you do, in fact, have the correct rod for a 14 fret neck(even if you use a butt joint). You don't want the adjusting nut buried inside the neck block...

The way Martin installed these was so the adjustment end was right behind the transverse brace.

Here's a pic of a Martin, 12 fret, one way truss rod. It was considered too long in a previous thread ( viewtopic.php?f=10101&t=39384&hilit=truss ) but seems to have come out just right in this application.

Ok, that makes sense to me now. I don't know why they sent a one way, maybe I didn't place the order correctly, but I'm thinking of using it anyways. Clinton
