Hi all, this is the first guitar i have built and i have bent the sides, thickness the soundboard witch is cedar.. I was just wondering if I could use cedar for the bracing?? Any help would be more then grateful ![]() |

Cedar tends to split more readily than spruce, and this makes it not such a good choice for bracing. I use spruce on all of my tops. |

Yes, it is possible, but you are better served by using spruce, especially as you are a beginner... |

Spruce beats Cedar in strength to weight ratio. Hard to get better then Spruce. Tom |

I really like the sound of cedar it sound like a bell when i tap it. I have got a spruce top witch i was going to use on the next guitar im going to make, it just dont sound as good! |

It sounds great, it's tougher, and has a proven track record. And you may just need to get some better spruce. The euro and Lutz I have sounds lovely when tapped, and even nicer in a guitar ![]() |
