I realize this is off topic, but you all are my go to source source for all things guitar. I've had someone offer to trade a 1983 Fender Strat for about $400 worth of work on another project. It's a USA made guitar. I'm not a Strat guru, but I think this is during CBS's ownership. The git is in very good condition. Anyone know if this is a good deal? Sorry for the bad pics.

Yes, I'd say that guitar is worth that much in good condition. Or more depending on who's buying. |

the bridge is weird, and the jack is mounted on the pickguard in place of one of the 3 knobs, instead of having its own dedicated cavity/angled plate. fender made some budget models of strat-like devices from time to time- i'd want to confirm exactly what model it was. but id be surprised if it was worth much less than 400, no matter what it is edit: found this, good read: http://www.fifthfret.org/2011/08/1983-s ... rigin.html |

Thanks for the advice fellas. Looks like I've not lost money and may come out a bit ahead on this deal. I have an old strat in the normal configuration, and I'd never seen one quite like this one. Can't say I prefer it, but it sounds pretty good. |

Aaron - Do that as quick as you can. I can not see the images. However, IF that is a 83 American Start, it was make in the original Fender plant in Fullerton CA before they shut it down (in 86 I think). Those things are now and will be in the future worth big money. People selling them cheap do not know what they have. Whwn those are gone, the price will shot up. I have seen 83 Fullerton Strats go in the $5K range. DO the Deal!!!!

That incarnation of a strat is known as a Dan Smith Strat. I think he is the guy who came up with this design, or was the executive in charge of it's design. It used one volume and one tone, instead of two tone knobs, and had a plain jack, instead of the angled jack of most strats before and after. The Fullerton made strats that go for $5000 (or less), are the first 57 and 62 reissue guitars that were built during this era. These are not worth that much. But I'm sure you can find prices by looking up Dan smith strat. I'd say $400 is definitely worth it. Best, Jonas |
