Well I just made a massive mistake and cracked a side right across while thinning it with a plane ![[headinwall]](./images/smilies/headbangwalluf8.gif "Mad") (Yes I realised afterwards you should plane away from the clamp  ). I glued it up with thin CA glue, but I don't know if it will take the heat from a bending iron. Do I need to get a new side set?

Bend it, fix the crack if need to again once bent, then clean it up and use it. I usually mark were the crack is because once cleaned up it is hard to find it. I take it it is a crack along the grain. But once bent and know the location you can do various things to secure it if need to. One thing I learned from the boss is mistakes happen. If toss the wood for everyone of them we would have more in the trash than we would finishing them. Most mistakes can be fixed. Sometimes it isn't a mistake, just a design change. That is how I rationalize it anyway. If going to a customer and I feel the mistake makes a difference in what that person wants, then start over and the original is finished and goes to someone else who will never know it wasn't built that way on purpose. Some of my best stuff were a result of a mistake and then had to change the guitar in body depth, scale length etc. Try not to make mistakes, but when do, then get a plan to fix it and then fix it and keep on moving on. Best advice I ever received and saved me a lot of money as I didn't make more firewood than guitars from the builds |

Peter, is it in the middle of the side or close to the end? Make some measurements because you may Cut that part off anyhow if it's close to the end. Also if it's not in the cutoff material, is it close enough to the en to do a florentine cutaway and just cut it off at the crack for the point? Just a thought. |

Well I've just unclamped it and it looks pretty good. Barely visible in fact! I think I can work it so it's in a fairly flat area just below the waist, so hopefully I won't have to heat it too much. |
