I think there was a post a few years ago with a link to a site that described how to make a long level from MDF and a few adjustable screws. Can anyone direct me to such a site? Thanks |

It's possible to use a plumbbob and midpoints on a sheet to make a level. See if you can figure it out from this picture: http://www.greatplanestrading.com/StP10/DSCN0672.jpg |

You can use 2 squares one on each table and they should mate over the knives. A jointer has to be well set up to be a useful tool. Your out put will only be as good as the input. |

Why would you need a level to set up a jointer? A long(ish) straightedge and a set of feeler gauges , that's all you need ... |

I concur with John Hall and two squares...........with the warning your squares have to be accurate. All squares are not equal, just make sure yours are 90 degrees. Tom |

Thank you for the correction (and the other ideas, too). I meant "straight edge", "not level". The article I saw before used something like a six inch by four feet piece of MDF with a trick to put in bolts on the edge and get them lined up exactly. It was a really simple trick, but it slipped my old mind. I think it used two boards as mirrors of each other. |

Todd, I think that was the method I was referring to. What is the use of the six inch ruler? Thanks. |
