Gibson has them made to the spec you can get them through sweetwater. A set of 60's P90's are not cheap. |

I can't say enough good things about Pete Biltoft at Vintage Vibe: http://www.vintagevibeguitars.com/pickups.html. He can make you whatever you want and I have no doubt he could make a set of P-90s that would be better than a set of vintage Gibbys, even if you could find them, and for less money than what vintage pieces are commanding these days. He made a set of P-90s for a buddy's Gibson (that had the original P-90s in it) and it is a totally different guitar: better clarity, less noise, more "air", bigger frequency response. I used a set of his Charlie Christian-style pickups in a custom build and everybody that played it was impressed. |

I use the 1957 and 1959 they are actuall Gibson pickups the stew mac won't hold a candle to them. I prefer the 57's in a less paul |

Don't know if this is useful, but the Dogear P90's in my 1967 ES125tdc measure 14.5 K at the output jack when selected to neck or bridge. This really surprised me. The single pickup in my 1954 ES125 reads 7.5K All the modern P90's I have measure 7.5K to 8.5K (bridge being higher) Lollars, SD, GFS |

What year? Big difference between 61 and 69. what happened to the old one. do you still have it? Stew Mac pickups don't make sense in this context. |

while all the pick ups do have their place , when you are going for that GIBBY SOUND you need the gibson pickups. Not knocking any of the pick ups mentioned as I like them myself . http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/IMP9RBC/ If you call them , they are very helpful. I Used 1957 P90 and 1959 P94's I used them in a les paul , The real Gibson pickups have a slightly different tone to my ear. |

Of course it is all subjective but imo the modern gibson pickups are not quite "the gibby sound" moreso than any of the choices given. He is asking about a vintage gibson guitar that was made in Kalamazoo, and the modern pickups are far from that. I think Seymour Duncan makes more vintage sounding pickups than Gibson does now. You have got a vintage instrument from Kalamazoo. Can you use the old one and have it rewound? |
